Steering wheel removal..Cub Cadet 70

1 Attachment(s)
I need some direction about the "proper" way to remove the steering wheel from this tractor. Got the acorn nut off, but can't get the wheel to come loose. :bigthink:

I am trying to take the tower off to refinish it and the frame under.

Appreciate any suggestions and experiences.

Patience is the key. I just got my steering wheel off my 73 after a week or so of soaking with PB blaster. Used a two jaw craftsman puller and smacked the top of the puller a couple of times with tension on it and retensioned again and smacked it again. Use a scrap piece of metal to protect the threaded part of the steer shaft from the puller. There are other methods on this site for doing it with different pullers made from wood to metal but this what worked for me.

i just got mine tractor sat outside about 30 yrs.....took the nut off first then soaked the shaft for 2 days with pb blaster, today i had my buddy pull on the wheel wiile i smacked on the nut with a mini sledge. came right off, no damage to the column......the wheel was junk to begin with.
