Sandblasting Parts

5 Attachment(s)
I was working on rebuilding an old carb for a guy today and while sandblasting the parts, I happen to think that the method we devised a few years ago might interest you guys. When blasting small parts like in a carb, they are impossible to hold on to. So, I went and got two hand held sifting screens, and I stack them together. I think the pics will explain it best.

I used two different screens, so that they were different sizes. That way, the parts can move around. I just shake the screen while sandblasting the parts so it gets all sides. If you are doing, say, a small spring and it blows around too much, just reverse which screen is on top, and it will "hold" the part in place. Works pretty good I say!! :beerchug:

I agree, they look good!

Brave soil.

I wouldn't sand blast a carb....afraid sand would get stuck inside the carb.

I've rebuilt literally hundreds. Just have to make sure you clean them out good. I use glass beads, not "sand". :beerchug:

I was going to ask if you used glass, not sand.:biggrin2:

Good idea on the baskets!

I think what Merk was wondering, with the exception of you and Mike McKown, was that 3 times in your first post you describe sandblasting parts 3 times. That's just rather "duckie" to then come out and claim you use class beads. That is called "bead blasting" . Had us all fooled, lol!

The parts look great!

Like everybody else, I just had a question too.
