I recently bought my first cub a few weeks ago and I'm finishing up on the framework. This a total rebuild by the way, and I'm starting to get into the kohler. I'm not sure if the old kohler runs but, I'm positive that my starter generator is junk. The question that I have is does the kohler run clockwise or counter clockwise? Because I was going to buy a new one and that question came up. And also where can you get one of these at a decent price? Thanks again

The answer to your question is relative to your position, also called the Coriolis Effect. If you hold your hand above your head and rotate your finger clockwise (cw) and keep rotating your finger in the same direction while at the same time bring your arm down to your waist, you will notice that your finger is now rotating counterclockwise (ccw). This is why our toilets flush in a different direction in the northern hemisphere than they would if they were in the southern hemisphere. So, if you are in the driver's seat, facing the engine, the flywheel rotates cw and so does the Starter/Generator (S/G) from the driver's seat. However, if you face the engine, it rotates ccw and so does the S/G.
You should expect to pay about $40-$60 for a S/G in useable condition. You may be able to put a brush kit in yours for about $15 and rebuild it yourself. I would recommend that you try our sponsors in the above signs in our forum. Oh, by the way....CONGRATULATIONS on your newest cub 124. I'm sure you are really going to enjoy these garden tractors.
