what was that noise

I was reving up the 105 I recently picked up then I heard a noise and it stopped running, found out why...luckily the hood was closed.
Needs a new head... |
Should be able to put a heli-coil in it and be good to go. Sucks about the breakage but its a fairly easy and cheap fix. Good luck
|
Well that sucks:bash2:
Did the plug hit the hood? |
$35 Spark plug repair kit. $13 for new head gasket. $25 for torque wrench if you don't have one. 3 hours time. New head $145 plus
|
If you're careful and take your time, you can put a helicoil in it without pulling the head, I just did one about 48 hours ago :biggrin2:
But like others here, if you've got the time and cash, pull the head, flatten it, replace the gasket, clean the top of the motor, and do the helicoil with the head off. Peace of mind. But you shouldn't need a new head. Good luck! |
That stinks Lew!
If it wasn't for the hood the plug would have been a rocket to the sky!:biggrin2: |
Thanks for the info guys...
It hit the hood but left no dent.It still had the wire on it. I have plenty of heads here to fix it so I will pull it and decarbon the piston, flatten the head, new gasket, and it will be good to go. |
The first time that happened to me was with a 107 that I had. It is an unmistakeable sound, but mine hit the garage roof and I was thankful no one else was around, or within earshot! Glad no damage to your hood or yourself. Look at the glass as half full---at least you know you have good compression!
