1210 steering issue.

I was mowing with it and all of a sudden, without any bump or collision, it stopped steering. The front wheels move in either direction together as they should. The steering wheel spins freely and the bolt and nut holding it there to the steering shaft both turn freely as well. What needs fixin??? LOL!! Thanks.

Something in your steering linkage has broke or came loose.

If the tie rod between the 2 front wheels is in place and connected and the drag link from the steering box is connected then something broke inside the steering box.

I have a spare box from a 1641. Will this work, or do I need a 1210 body specific. All linkages are connected and working. The box must be junk.

Nope the 1641 has a short column and a CV joint in the middle. It can be made to work but it is a bit of a project. Ask how I know. Think you would be better of finding out what is wrong with the one you have, could be an easy fix.

If I'm not mistaken, the 1641 has tilt steering, and the 1210 does not. I don't think that box will work. It doesn't have to be 1210 specifically, just for that frame style. I'd check with the sponsors at the top.

Yep & Yep but it can be converted, I did it on my 1210 with the box from a 1440.

I wondered if it could be. Looked like you could take the short shaft out and convert. I always wondered about putting the tilt on an older one..... :bigthink:

Nope that is not how you do it. I used a Woodward C109 DD coupler. it fits the shaft on the 1440/1641 box that is a DD shaft and converts to 3/4" round. then I had a muffler shop make me a tube to slip over the 1440 box shaft tube.
