Project 1200 DONE!!!
Hey guys finally got her done today. Got her for free. 1200 with a bad/no throw out bearing. Sat for 4+ years in barn and never ran. Got her home, put a little gas in it and fired right up and pto worked good too, just didnt move.
Fast forward 6 months. 2 of those actually working on it, buyin parts weekly as needed. Now she is done and put back together. Runs good. Smokes little, as I didnt tear motor apart as she was a runner. I can deal with a little puff here and there. She is by far NOT a beauty queen!! Never ment to be. Never will be. She is gonna be my work horse weekly mower. Only reason for refresh. My Troy is on its last leg. It was a very used rider i got for free from my dad but it never let me down and still takes a licking and keeps on ticking, but rear end is getting bad and its not servicable that i know of. Put alot of new parts in my 1200. Basically just general maintence. Coil, condenser, silly noid, ignition switch, points, head gasket, head bolts, black iron pipe exhaust, muffler, solid motor mounts, 3 pin driver, throw out bearing, rear end seal and fluid, mule drive belt, deck belt, sharpen blades, paint deck, power wash all the crud out of deck bearing and regrease, new battery, new battery cables, rebuilt carb, lots and lots of new nuts and bolts as needed, tube in 1 tire, repaint seat pan (still got to make seat cover). Got a little seat time today and made a couple passes mowing between rain storms and did great. Now gotta wait for rain to stop and dry up little. Got her stuck in the ditch because of stearing radius is WAY wider than my Troy, but she pulled out of it when I sat my fat butt on the fender over the tire that was spinning. Gonna take alot of getting used to this new turning radius. Here are some pics. Yes I know many "parts" are missing. Never got them when I got it and like I said it was free. Only replaced nessary parts to make and keep it running. Side covers, muffler box, and that piece of tin that goes between motor and gas tank were never there and not buying/installing them either. I know they "help with cooling". Blah blah blay :biggrin2: Take care everyone. Enjoy them CUBS!!!! John |
You look like happy camper to me. Congrats on a job well done!:beerchug:

Awesome! IH cubs are the best. 1200> Troy built mower. :biggrin2: I think you'll be satisfied with it for many years.

Thanks everyone. Ordered a few more gaskets and things the other day. Nothing major. Breather gasket and filter. Gov bushing. Pto switch. It likes to randomly shut off (sure its old and worn out). Gotta take the carb off and tap out the air box mounting holes as they are stipped and air box fell off after about 5 minutes mowing. Been playing with it all week. Sure love this big heavy hunk of steel. Just as much as my "beast" 108. True work horses!! Only thing I dont like is the 4-5 point turn I have to do to get around a tree. Hahhaaha. Im so used to my troy with messed up stearing that was almost like a ztr. I will get used to it though.
Cant wait to get a couple more to rework. Funds are low and not allowing that right now tho. I have been eyeballing 2 1000's on craigslist that have been on there off and on for im sure a year or more. Just cant risk the funds right now with three house payments (two mortages on house we are selling) and all other bills. Also came across a 1450 for the right price but that right price isnt in my wallet right now. Couple 1250's too. Really want to do two "custom" trailer queens for my wife and daughter. Im sure if I get to do the kids Cub the puristists will die. Im going to let her pick her own colors for everything. Same with the wifes. And Im sure they wont pick CubCadet yellow and white. But just as long as its not green and yellow. HAHAHAH. Thanks again everyone! You have all been great. When the next project comes my way....you all will be the first to know!! Take care and enjoy them Cubbies!! John |
