What is it?
 

I found this broken piece in the bottom of the transaxle case when I was changing the transaxle oil in my 128. Looks like maybe part of a bushing. I am not familiar with the internals of the transaxle. I looked at a transmission parts breakdown drawing but could not see any bushing that corresponded.
Could someone who is familiar with the workings of the transaxle please tell me what this could be and a recommended plan of action?

What kind of metal is it? Can't tell from the pic. Looks like bronze... or is it cast?

looks like someone used too long a bolt on the rear cover or shifter cover.
Do you still have the rear cover off?

The piece appears to be cast.It is relatively soft,as in a file cuts it fairly easily.It is not hard like a bearing race.According to the inside radius,the hole seems to be 1/2" . So,if it was a bushing,it fitted on a 1/2" shaft.The width is approx. 19/64",(slightly under 5/16").The inside radius surface is smooth,but not smooth like a bushing or bearing surface.It doesn't seem to have indications that a shaft has been turning in it. The outside radius surface is not real smooth,it seems to have slight casting imperfections in the surface .
I do not have either cover off,I only opened the drain plug to drain it.I found this piece When I stuck my pinkie finger in the hole to try to remove any lingering oil or sludge.
Since it is cast,would that rule out that it is a piece of a bearing or bushing?

I have no idea what it is but if it came out of one of my tractors you can bet that I would at least pull the cover and take a look. If you are lucky it is nothing critical.

Looks to me like part of the casting that holds the reverse idler gear. Pull the top cover off and you should see the reverse idler on the left side if you are looking forward. I pretty sure the shaft that goes through the idler is 1/2".

I cant say what it is. However, no matter how you slice it the unit needs to be opened up for inspection. If its part of the unit you're likely risking bigger damage if you run it. If its foreign you may have more of it in there.
