Chainsaw
 

We had an old Homelite 1050 Automatic with a 30" bar on it on the farm we used to cut wood to heat two of the hog barns and the shop. I learned to run chainsaw with this one along with a smaller Shindaiwa. Me and one of the guys that work for me pulled the saw apart, cleaned it all up, and rebuilt the carb. It was TERRIBLE to find parts for it. Well, IT LIVES AGAIN!! Got a big dead oak tree I want to cut down out at the house. This saw is MEAN!! It has a 100CC motor on it and is stinkin LOUD. I honestly I can't believe I started using this thing when I was only about 14!! We'll see if I can still handle her..... It's a pretty heavy saw. I've ran a Stihl of the same size and this saw probably weighed half again more.

Anybody else have any old "Cub Cadet era" chainsaws, weed eaters or the like?

I have a Sthil O15 from around 1975. Runs as good as new.

I am only allowed to use the little saw!! :bigthink:

scratch that. A gas one. I've used an electric one, they are junk.

That doesn't look like a very little saw :bigthink:

Me, on the other hand...... I'm TIRED!! Stinking old tree didn't want to come down. Took over 30 min, some wedges and the small saw to "convince" it!

I have four of the old Homelite Super EZ's and two of the Super XL saws.

In their day, I don't think they could be beat for cutting power or reliability for a non-commercial use.

Modern chains saws rev up about twice the rpm and will cut much faster even though the old Homelite really never would bog down due to lack of power.

My Dad had an early 80s vintage Homelite saw with a 16" bar that ran like a monster for YEARS... He bought it at a garage sale in the late 80s for $15...

Someone stole it a few years back... :( He replaced it with an Echo that seems to be a good saw, but is 4x the cost of the modern Homelite version. That old Homelite stuff was actually very good equipment for its price range. The new stuff is total crap.

Past that, I think we have a Montgomery Ward saw with a 20" bar that is still a monster as well.. No telling how old it is for sure, but I'm guessing the early 70s or late 60s. That thing has fell many giant trees!
