Starter problems
I got a 127 out of the junk yard last year and have been tinkering with it since. Since then, I have gotten another 127 and a 123 that both run great. The one out of the junk yard, some one replaced the K301 12hp with a K241 10hp. My problem is the starter doesn't seem to turn the motor over fast enough to start it with just a battery hooked up to it. I have discovered that if i take another battery and hook them together and make 24 volts it starts right up. Any suggestions?

Is your battery known and tested to be good...?? Did you check your battery cable terminal ends, to be clean, polished, down to bare metal connections, and tight...??

yes its done this with a brand new battery

Dragging starter? Try replacing the bad starter with a known good one from one of your other tractors. See if that helps. If it does, then you need to get the dragging starter fixed or replaceed. If it doesn't help, then you have other issues.

well it is in deed a starter problem because i switched it out today and it started easier then that starer screwed up witch i knew was bound to happen the last time i used it it had smoke rolling out of it and sounded horrible when it spun so how much do they usually cost to get rebuilt

Usually about $110 - 120.00 rebuilt. You might get off cheaper. You can buy a china model from ebay about the same, but I'd get the original rebuilt by a generator shop. If you try to get a used S/G, you might have the same problems shortly. I'd go with a rebuild, and have an S/G good for another 40 years. I've done it both ways and got tired of messing with the S/G so I got mine rebuilt. No problems since then.

when you let the smoke out of the starter gen that's not to good for them I get starter gens done for about 95.00 and I take him the bearing type that's all we use
