Help me please, trading my 105 for a 71 need some info
 

Ok, I maybe trading my 105 for a 71. Just the tractors at this point. So here are my questions:

Now I have a QA42 deck, a 42 inch plow blade, a 3 point, a sleeve hitch adapter and a spring assist on the 105. Will all of these items work on the 71? I am not familiar yet as to how the pin on and quick attach stuff works

Can the original 7 hp Kohler still be rebuilt, are the parts available from Kohler or Stens?

Can the 71 handle the 42 inch deck?

How hard is it to remove the three point from the 105?

Finally I want a gear drive Cub for sure. Is the 105 for 71 trade a good one or should I do a 104 for the 105? I like the 71 because someday I would like to get the round fenders when I can afford them.

The first thing I see is, the 7hp will probably struggle spinning a 42" deck. You will need to find a mule drive and sub frame that fit both the 71 and the QA deck, that may be a trick as I'm not sure that combination came from IH (I may be wrong though).

The three point stuff will work on the 71. The three point stuff bolt's off some easier than it bolts back on....

The front blade should work, but you will need to drill the frame on the 71 to make it fit.

Yes, parts for the 7hp are still available.

Any trade is a good one IF you are getting rid of something that you don't care so much about and getting something that you REALLY want.

Thanks Sam. I guess you are right about the trade. He has a deck for the 71 but it has a hole. My deck is pretty solid but is the QA so I think is for a 72 and later. I just wanted to make sure the parts were available to rebuild the Kohler. I think this will be the machine I start going through top to bottom making it like new again. I just love the looks of the roundy Cubs.

You will not have to drill holes in anything to mount a QA carriage on a 71.

Matt could you explain a little better? So my snow plow for my 105 will mount right up to a 71 with no mods needed? How about the QA42 deck? I want to mount plow and be ready for the winter. I have a blower for my other machine so I will be ready for just some slush to deep snows.

One other thing is he has a CC42 blower for the 71, isn't that kind of big for the little 7 hp?

Also is the 3 speed geared low enough for pushing snow? I heard that you only really need a creeper for tilling and moldboard plowing.

You don't need a creeper for moldboard plowing. You are correct, about needing one for tilling. You'll also need a creeper, if you run a snowblower. :beerchug:

Ok great, so if this will be my winter plow machine and my spring plow day sweetheart, I won't need a creeper? That is good to know. If I put weighted skinny AGs on it, that will help in both kinds of plowing as well, right?

The QA deck carriage will bolt to the frame. There are brackets to add to the blade to allow you to bolt it on as well. The 42" thrower is too big for a 7 hp. My 36" thrower will use all of my 782's 18 hp at times. The blade
will work fine.

To pull a moldboard plow you'll either need ag tires or chains on your turf tires. As far as plowing snow, ags should work fine if you are on level ground. if you're trying to plow uphill in a heavy snow, or if it is icy, then chains on turfs would be better. I had a QA36 snowthrower on my 73 and even with the creeper gear it was about all it would handle at times. I would never even try a QA42 on the 7hp tractors. Good luck with your swap.
