HyTran Fluid Issue

1 Attachment(s)
I drove to closest IH/Case dealer to pick up HyTran Ultra for a fluid change on my 782. I drained the system, replaced the filter and cleaned off old gasket and resealed the rear end. When I went to put the new fluid in, I removed the cap from the container of HyTran and discovered that the foil seal had already been removed. Now I am worried that the fluid in the container has been contaminated or was used by someone and replaced with a cheaper alternative. Am I being paranoid in this situation? Would like to hear the opinion of some other IH Cub Cadet fans.

I would take it back to the dealer, explain what you found when you opened the container and try to get them to replace it. Good luck. The local dealer here treats me like a red headed step child because I didn't buy my cub from them. If it were me I would buy a new batch of fluid from a different dealer if your's won't make the situatioin right just to be on the safe side.

Not in my Cub.

I wouldn't use any oil for any of my machines or vehicles if the container seal was not broken by me! I know Hy-Tran is expensive so if your dealer won't make it right I use NAPA premium heavy duty tractor hydraulic &transmission fluid that meets Case / IH Hy-tran specs. I've used it for a couple years now with no issue and its only 16$ a gallon. Good luck.

I would at the very least take the container back to the store of purchase and see if you can trade it for a good jug of oil. It's worth a shot. Happened to me once at our local Walmart. I purchased a gallon jug of Mobil 1 only to find when I got home some lowlife dirtbag put the used oil back into the jug and got his money back. Talk about being P/Oed. Walmart exchanged without a problem. I always check now to make sure the seal is intact. On a side note I have been using NAPA brand premium hyd fluid for about 20yrs now with no problems what so ever. :bigthink:

Not that I recommend this to ANYONE, but my Dad ran ATF (out of pure ignorance) in my 149 for over 3000 hours (the tractor had at least 1000 hours on it when we bought it) with no issues until the whole thing just gave out. The entire hyrdo system was also badly leaking for at least 1000 of those hours. So... after at least 4000k hours the system failed (can't blame it)... I know he NEVER changed the hydro oil completely and only did the filter once, with a NAPA filter with the wrong filtration spec.

I've been running Hy-Tran spec oil from Rural King and genuine Cub filters since I replace the rear end. That's what I intend to continue to do.

All that said... Heck yes take it back!!! Even $20 for 2 gallons at Rural King is too much money for it to not be "new".

take it back if its not to much trouble.

With a broken seal like that, you don't have any idea what's in that container... It could be full of elephant snot, How could you tell???
