Engine removal trouble cadet 124
 
Hello,

For the past week I have been trying to get the engine out of my 124. Is there a trick or something I am missing? I read the manual and cannot figure how to get the clutch free from the engine. Thanks for the advice in advance!

just unbolt the engine and disconnect all the wires and slide it out free from the clutch

Remove the hood and cast iron nose piece. It makes it so you can slide it back

Your 12 hp engine should have a deep oil pan that will prevent the engine from simply sliding forward.

The engine will need to be lifted 2 1/2 inches or thereabouts before it can be moved forward enough to get the clutch to slide off of the 3 pin driver.

It may be a little easier if you unbolt the 3 pin driver from the flywheel cup (sometimes this helps and other times not) it may also help to pull the pin out of the clutch release lever/hanger.

Other than that it really should come right out.

I've also seen when the drive shaft is rusted or badly grooved to the 3 pin driver.

I bought an "invalid lift" at a junk shop when I had to split our 105. It was a good $50 investment. Lifted the motor out solo,and moved it around to work on it.

OK will try that. It appears the pin driver wants to come loose, but just wont.

It may be a little easier if you unbolt the 3 pin driver from the flywheel cup (sometimes this helps and other times not)
I think I have done that, still attached.

it may also help to pull the pin out of the clutch release lever/hanger.

Are these the pins you speak of?

those metal wires that somebody has wrapped around the clutch disk shouldnt be there. remove those and it may help some also it looks like one of the ones thats just gonna have to be wiggled and shook out of place.

They would be called anti-rattle springs and yes they are suppose to be there.:bigthink:
