Cub Cadet 2186 Question

We have a CC Model 2186 (2000 series Tractor). At the right rear of the machine, between the wheel and the frame, is a rod that goes from the back of the mower toward the deck. At the deck end, it is supposed to have a spring.

Somehow or other, this spring went awol. Not a huge problem in itself, but I cannot figure out how the opposite end of this thing connects or even what it connects to. I have a parts manual which shows the rod. it is called "Rod, RH Lift Assist", part # 747-3236A. However, it does not show where it goes.

Really puzzles me that I can't figure this out. I've had the deck off many times over the years, but not recently, and just can't remember where it hooked. Anyone have a similar mower that could take a look at theirs?

Thanks for the help.

Also, this tractor eats its deck drive belt (motor to deck). I've checked the archives, and saw Dierik's mod. My machine came from the factory with this guard in place - they must have liked his idea! Anyway, any others ideas welcome on that problem.

thanks

I had the same spring and arm setup on my 2185. Took me forever to figure out how to lock the arm in the up position. Essentially hook the spring onto the bar then you have to raise the bar up into the inner part of the frame and the shoulder at the end of the arm will set and lock in to the frame edge. There should be one of these set ups on each side. From what I can tell it is spring assist lift for the deck. As for belts, check and make sure none of the idler pulleys have bearings going bad or seizing up when hot, causing the belt to break. Hopefully some of the other guys with more info will chime in.
