Non Cub But Need Some Help/Ideas
 

Ok i got a 68 TurfMaster 32 (AKA Huffy) And im trying to get it back together but ran into a problem with the bearing/bushing for the rear axle.
Its a belt/chain drve set up so it has a live axle in the rear,and what happen is the po never greased the bearing/bushing so its shot!
I cant fit a newer style bearing as its too big around and i want to try and keep this stock looking. The retainer for the bearing/bushing is spot welded together so i drilled the welds and can hopefully find something to replace it.

So, the center piece that looks like a ball-and-socket... Was it locked to the shaft and turned in the housing? Or did the axle turn inside of it? What material is it made of? From the pics I can't tell if its something similar to Nylatron, or if it was cast..... Could you make a new carrier assembly and just use a flange style bearing?

The axle turns inside and im unsure of what type of metal it is it looks to be regular steel/cast, im trying to brainstorm how to put a pillow block in place of it.

Look at the stamped housing type. Maybe you can use your housing with the bearing from one of these. Other thought is the ball that goes in the links for a 3 point hitch.

I'm also working on an old MTD with similar bearings on the rear axle. My question for you is how to grease them anyway? I don't see zerk fittings on them. Thanks, Mark

Mine im sure is made of steel as its magnetic but it did have a drilled hole for a grease zerk maybe your grease zerk broke off? or is yours brass?
