Fuel gauge float, won't float

I put in a new fuel gauge in my 1650 last year. I went on a deployment and came back and it will not float. I did put fuel stabilizer in for the winter. I put some fresh gas in a jar, and it will not float. I put some water in a jar and it would float just fine. Any clue what is going on?

It's Probably no good. Last time I checked, gas and oil float on top of water.:bigthink:

Well, the float part looks to be a solid piece of plastic. Its been sitting in gas for less than a year. I don't see how something that is made to float in gas does not float any more. Though it floats on water just fine. I know specific gravities come into play and all. I did still have a little bit of fuel left in my 5 gallon jug that is 6months old with stabilizer in it that I cut with the new fuel. I don't see how that would have effected anything. I did not notice it not floating when I left it 6 moths ago when I put the stabilized fuel in it.

The only thing that I can think of is, that maybe it has to do something with the Ethanol in today's fuel's. I know some gaskets and seals get compromised by being in contact with Ethanol based fuels.

Sounds like saturation to me, the only way to prove this is to "weigh & compare " the float assembly with a new one then replace it. At the end of the season I don't use any fuel stabilizer I just start and run my gas equipment 2-3 times a month for 15 to 20 min. no problems ever, this also keeps oils & other fluids moving coating what might have dried / dripped off internals .:American Flag 1:

I picked up a new one last year for a 1110 LT from my dealer and within 6 months it didn't float either.
Took it back and told him the story, he ordered another one free of charge and it's been fine ever since. So maybe there were some bad one being made, who knows.
