72 transmission noise

Hi guys,

I just aquired a 72 and it has a noise coming from the transmission area. I am more of a hydro guy and this is my first gear drive, so I'm needing some advice.
The noise sounds like a bearing rumble. It stops when I press in on the clutch and starts when I let it out. It's there when I am moving and when I am in neutral with the clutch engaged.

Thanks, Joel

Possibly the reduction drive bearing? Is the noise coming from where the drive shaft connects to the reduction drive shaft? You're going to have to drain the transmission and remove the rear plate to narrow down where the noise is coming from. It'll give you a chance to see what kind of shape the rear end is in. If it's something in the rear, hopefully you can get to it from the back. If it's further forward in the tranny, you'll have to split the tractor to get to the reduction drive housing. :biggrin2:

Joel check out your teaser spring. I bet it's real jumpy when you let out the clutch. It might be the throw out bearing.:bigthink:

It is very jumpy and almost no pedal travel. So maybe the remants of the spring rattling around the shaft?

Time to pull it and see what's going on with it.
