149 Steering wheel upside down

Hey everybody, I have been patiently trying to get my steering wheel off. The PO must have taken it off and re installed 180 degrees out. I have tried everybody's tips and I cant get the sucker off! Heat, Hammer and knee technique, lots off PB blaster. Now I'm wondering if there is anything I can do on the bottom end of the shaft in order to get the wheel turned back around? Thanks for your help, Mark

You have not told us how big the hammer is.

I have never needed heat, but, I got some really big hammers!! :bigthink:

I was wondering if the steering box comes apart or anything like that? I also tried using a 3 arm puller and hammer. Nothing!

The cam plate comes off so you can get to the internals.

But without the wheel off the column still won't come apart. I had good luck with the bolt and hammer method on my 149 last week.

i had a hard time with my 127 but the hammer-knee trick finally worked. make sure the PO didn't do something stupid like weld it on. good luck.

Did you try the three arm puller with an impact wrench? Either it will come off or you'll trash the wheel.
I used it on the 125 (no pictures) and there was no damage, and it was on there.

24oz is my grandma's hammer!! 3 pound minimum. 5 is better.

Mass is your friend. No brass, no soft face, no cast iron. You need that sudden shock that the mass of steel gives. You probably do not even need to swing it that hard.
