104's
 

I've worked out a trade in which I will be getting 2 104's in exchange for my 100. I'm still sorta new to Cubs, so this seems like a pretty good deal to me. My 100 runs and mows, but the 104's need a little work. They both have sleeve hitch adapters. One has a spring assist, and one has wheel weights. Both have their mowing decks. Neither has lights :(. The person I'm getting them from bought them from the original owner (so he says). So far the only Cubs I've had are the 100, and an Original. They're pretty simple and easy to work on. I wanted to ask if there's anything in particular I'll need to look for while getting the 104's back in shape? I hope I made a good deal, and I'll try to post some pics of the 104's when I pick them up.

There isn't to much different between the 100 and the 104s that you just got just mostly cosmetic and a quick attach deck hookup. I think you did alright in the trade. God knows I've done far worse.

nice 2 more 104's on here. You don't hear much about them on this site (or so it seems) everyone has the earlier ones or the 124/5's.

Here is what ive fixed/found wrong with my 104 during its tear down and in the middle of the rebuild I am doing now. Theres a thread on it in this section of the forum.

Clutch - Shot, along with all the parts, I ordered a rebuilt one on the 15th from our sponsor (mark hellrung aka Yosemite Sam) so hopefully thatll come soon as I will be ready for it in the next week. Its almost the same price to buy one of his rebuilt clutches as it is to buy all the parts and do it yourself so if you need a clutch id suggest that.

Steering - Lots of play in mine so I broke it down and cleaned out all of the grease. The bearings seem fine in the column so I am guessing it was just out of adjustment. I ordered the super steer upgrade as well as new grease seals and a bearing for the top of the column.

As far as the rest of the tractor goes its been pretty solid, look for cracks in the metal and get those repaired before they get worse (weld em up) and just clean those up that you have real good and change all of the fluids (my rear end fluid was disgusting).

Well, I would have liked to see what your giving up for these two non runner's before I say one way or the other but I am leaning towards keeping what you got! At least you know what you have and what it'll do. The other's as of now, don't do anything! PIC'S of your "O" & 100 sir would be nice!

I figured I'd get a mixed response. I like a challenge, and getting the 104's back in good working order is something I look forward to. It's just a hobby that operates on a small budget so I can't afford to have them by the tens sitting around lol.
