129 pto questions
I started to get my 129 ready for the summer. I got it all greased and cleaned up, and mower deck back on. But when I engaged the PTO, it didn't spin.... So, I engaged it in and out unto it started to spin but after 30 seconds or so it stopped spinning again. I could smell burning clutch. I got it all taken apart today disk is in good shape seems fairly new. pressure plate isn't to marked up and bearing is spinning freely. Anyone know what would make it stop spinning? The mower deck is greased and spins freely by hand as well.
Thanks in advance. |

Is this a PTO with a brake?
If not: Check to see if the mule drive pulleys turn freely and make sure the belt hasn't slipped between the the pulleys and the arm/s that they are attached to. Disengage the pto (pull the lever back) and see if it all turns by hand. |
Pto doesn't have a break on it, just the button on the face that the lever presses into to engade and disengage.

There has to be a place where it is binding or the pto isn't adjusted correctly.
If it is all put together, the pto pulley should turn (by hand) when the lever is pulled back and the blades should also turn. For what it's worth, I don't know that I have ever had one that slipped the pto clutch, the belt has always slipped first. |
