rewire my 149
Anyone know what gauge wire to use for replacement? Are most of the wiring the same gauge? Did a search but could not come up with an answer. I know that a wiring harness is available, but quite expensive. Also dont know if they contain all the wires needed. Any input appreciated.
Thanks |
Based on the runs involved, 16 ga is heavy enough for everything but the battery and s/g cable 8ga is fine for those.

Bob,
I went down this same path awhile back. By the time I priced out the wire alone, I was already around $25. This still didn't include any terminal fittings or the casing/mesh that ties all the wires into a harness. Now you may already have wire and parts on hand for the job, and that would help. One of the advantages of the aftermarket offerings is that they are made with the correct OEM color coding. So, installation and future troubleshooting will be much easier. |

TheSaturnV,
What you said makes sense. I do not have any of the parts that I would need. Can you recommend a good place to order from. If they are color coded like the wiring diagram i downloaded, it would make it a lot easier. Are all the wires included included the heavy s/g wire and the wires for lights? Thanks for your help and also thanks to fourinchdragslicks for his advice. Bob |

porchelectric06 is the seller on ebay They have a full blown website too http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/hst...ess/Detail.bok I've used their harness and made my own, the pre-made is the way to go |
Sure. I can fully recommend Porch Electric on eBay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cub-Cadet-80...item41710f8ca5 I figured by the time I sourced all the proper connectors, terminals, different gauge wires and the outer covering...I could easily make more than the $80 or so by just going into work a little early. :) Not sure about the heavy wire, doesn't appear so from the eBay pic. As far as the headlight "harness" there's really not much to it. Ask the seller, but I didn't even see one listed. That part may be where you can DIY. |
You could also check with forum member Mlamar.
He makes wiring harnesses also and is a good guy to deal with. |
