Quiet Line not so Quiet?

Now that I have my first QL running good (my 1650) and never having had any experience with the QLs, I'm thinking it's really no "quieter" than my 108 or 149. In fact, there is more sheet metal rattling than the other two. I think it's the muffler shroud (and I have all the screws in it) and the hood latch. The hood on the QL doesn't latch like the other two tractors.

What, if anything, are you guys doing to reduce the noise from these? There seems to be more high frequency noise than the others, which mostly just have exhaust noise, not so much sheet metal rattling noise. Or is it just that this is a 16 hp vs the 10 or 12 in the other two?

Well,
I reduced the shaking and noise by selling them.....Not a fan of the QL series..
I do like the body shape and tins but the engine mounting design is something to be desired....

Always wanted to do a re-power with a Command in one....Solid mounts...Not worried about the originality of the side tins as they probably need to be massaged a bit.

I'll stay tuned to this, my 1210 and 1450 aren't all that quiet either. Specially the 1450.

The 1250, I used to own wasn't quiet either. It was louder than my 100. A good tractor overall though. :beerchug:

Ive tought about using a 149 frame when i redo my 1650 so i can solid mount the motor. Idc what people sqy about solid mounts, but my 149s and 169 are solid mounted qnd i dont believe they shake so thats what my plan is. I would just get rid of the 1650 but i like the looks and 16 horse muscle

The nature of the beast. My 1650 runs good, but will rattle your brains out. And it isn't quiet about doing it either. :biggrin2:

check your upper grill screen where the lights are. sometimes that thing makes one heck of a racket and makes it sound like everything is rattling. on my girlfriends stepdads 1200 i put rubber washers and electrical tape around the edge of that screen and the rattling went away. actually very quiet machines when everything is secure. its getting them secure that is the issue.

What about removing the sheet metal from around the muffler, and putting a better latch on the hood? With some rubber bumpers of some sort... I'll check the headlight grill.

putting a better latch on the hood? With some rubber bumpers

I plan on both of those when I get around to it. Gotta help, can't hurt.

Ear plugs. The only way to go.
