42" deck baffle
Is the baffle around the blades on a 42" mower deck needed? I have a 104 with a 42" deck that the baffle is in bad shape and wondered if it is worth fabricating a new one. or to just run it without. anyone tried it both ways?

I have used a 42 inch mower both ways and believe that the baffle gives a bit better job of grass cutting. Most likely gives better suction to the blades to stand the grass up better. I have a mower apart now for refurb and will be fashioning one for it.

Good looking baffle. How did you mount the hold downs to the metal. Also sure hope that was not your blood on the floor you might need a transfusion. Lol

42" deck baffle
I used the mounting angles from original baffle. ground them
off the original, cleaned them up with grinder, mounted them in position with 1/4-20 bolts and after forming the baffle used snap clamps to hold in place and welded. came out pretty good. not blood on floor, just 35 year old shop floor showing age. that is another job for " one of these days". |
Thanks for the info. That was pretty much what I was going to do too. Thanks again.
