Cub Cadet 147 tractor
This is my first posting here. I've never own a Cub Cadet, but always wanted one. My wife has a niece that has a Model 147 that she says the mower deck quit working. She tells me the engine is fine, etc.
I made a trip to she her today to look over this Cub Cadet. It's is fair to good condition....with a few rust spots here and there. Tires are good, and the deck looks good. I didn't take the time to see if it starts as it have been setting outdoors under a tarp for about three years. I taken the engine number and it shows Serial Number 2130014 and another number...6099A. She wants $300.00. I didn't offer her anything as i wanted to get some great advise from the people that know, and that is why I'm here. I was thinking of offering her about $225.00. Would that be a fair price? |
Pictures please?

I have a 147 and it's a rugged tractor. I'll bet the problems with it are easy to fix.
|
I agree, the 147 is a very robust machine and the problem(s) are likely small. I'd try for a lower price, although 300 is good, cuz you could get it cheaper. The worst thing is she could say no. I'd snatch it.

She told me the 147 was running fine engine wise as she had the engine rebuilt about ten years ago. She has about 1/2 acre yard she used the Cub for. She said, the mower deck quit going up and down. I think it has a electric lift that may need repairing or replacing. Her husband had a stroke four years ago and he can't mow anymore. She bought a John Deere ZTR mower that she can now use. Se said John Deere offered her $200.00 on trade in.

FD611V,
I paid $125 for one that was not in good condition. The price of $300 is not unreasonable. Here's the catch. It can be addictive and it can cost you a lot of money depending what you want to do with it. I would suggest you buy it, bring it home, take some pictures to post on here, and get ready for some work and fun. Great machines. Makes me smile when I fire up the 147:) lots of pictures of them on here and folks that can help you. Regards, Chris |
What year did IH start with the Model 147, and the year ended? I didn't get the tractor serial number off the machine. The Kohler engine shows it's a K321A with serial #2130014-197B or 177B on the engine block. There is also another number right under the serial number...it is 6099A if that means anything.
BTW: This tractor has a decal showing it is Hydrostatic. |
The 147 was produced from 1969-1971.
|
FD, that engine was built in 1970.

147
The number you are speaking of is the spec number. If you ever go to a dealership for engine parts they will ask for model (K321), serial, and spec numbers from the engine.
I'd buy 147s all day long for $300. You might try just saying "take $250???". If she needs the money just go for the original deal and be happy. You won't regret anything. |
