123 hydro problem
 

went to use my 123 last night and when i went to drive it out of the shed it wouldnt move ether direction after it ran for about 5 min it started to move a little and after it ran a little longer i was able but it took a while to have full power i checked the fluid today it it was just below the fill hole i could easily touch it with my pinky finger it it just because it is so cold out or what i never have a problem with my 127 hydro drive

When was the last time you changed the fluid and the filter on your hydro? If it is old and has accumulated enough water from condensation there is a good chance that you have ice in the filter and that would stop the flow of oil to the pump on your hydro.

Yup, Sounds like it's time for a fluid and filter change.

Hy tran has the ability to mix a small % water with oil, thus the problem in cold temps.
You have a milkey emulsion of water/oil trying to circulate.
Most other hydraulic oils keep water/oil seperate,
but when the moisture/water level reaches the suction inlet it will stop flow if below the freezing point in any system/with any oil.
Best to warm it up as good as you can and change oil/filter, as mentioned previously.
FWIW:
Bare in mind
when a paper filter, gets water in it, it swells and the bypass operates,rendering it useless,as a filter.

ok i got this tractor second hand and from the looks of the filter its been a wile seance it has been changed so when i get a new gasket for the rear ill change it out i have a brand new filter i got back last summer i was going to do a oil change on my 127 had a gasket too but i think it got thrown away sense it was in cardboard :bash2: any suggestions on what to use

If you don't have a gasket you can get some gasket paper at an auto parts store and cut your own. I like Case IH Hy-Tran as far as the oil goes. I used to use NAPA 1410 filters but lately the Cub filters are a bit less $$$ so I am now buying the filters at the Cub dealer. A new filter and some oil is a lot cheaper than a pump.

I'm pretty sure the OEM filter does not have a bypass in it.

No offence Matt but they do, (at least the yellow OEM I have does).
If anyone would like to see, I can cut one in 1/2 and take a pix, but not tonight,as it is *4 out in the shop and my air operated die grinder cutoff wheel ices up @ that temp.:bigeyes:

Yes they do. I have cut them open. I always cut filters to look for signs of problems. This pic does not show the spring but trust me it had one. Anyway you can see the inside of a Cub and a NAPA filter.

The cub O.E.M. Filters have a bypass. Some aftermarket filters do not, that is why they are NOT recommended
