What happened to my "reverse" on my 782?

I parked my 782 back in July-August and finally got it started today, but when I did, there was no reverse whatsoever! I filled the transmission with fresh Hy-Tran and it has always had a really strong reverse before I parked it. Everything runs excellent on it, except no reverse. Could that be my hydro filter being clogged? Help-I've never experienced this kind of a setback before!!

Thanks in advance for your advice and interest in my thread,

Sounds to me like one of your hydraulic dump valves is stuck.

Wow, thanks for the fast response Cubs-n-Bxrs! Ok, they are automatic dump valves, so how do I remedy that if it is the case?

To be sure that is the problem you can swap them and if after you swap them you don't have forward then it's time for new a new valve.

Take both of the valves out ant tap them on a hard surface on the nut end. Reinstall them and try your hydro. It should work just fine. I had one stick on one of my 782s and it has not done it since.

Good luck.

Wow, I hope that is all that I need to do to fix this problem. When yours got stuck, did you lose forward or reverse? This is my first experience with auto relief valves. I've had the manual ones stick on me before and managed to loosen them up with some PB Blaster, but aside from my zero turn, this is my newest one--still IH built. Thanks for the advice!

Haha....I did that and on the third tap the whole unit flew apart into about 5 different pieces!!! I think it had been repaired and and had a very weak weld on it and the other one was definitely stuck---the spring is sideways and through the holes!! Two more automatic valves are on the way and I'm very glad that I found out what a horrible shape those were in. It probably would have worked if the PO had taken better care of this machine.

Glad u got it figured out wouldn't have thought they would fly apart! Wow

A new one, or one that had been properly repaired would not have come apart. Several years ago I came up with a way to take them apart, replace the bad o ring, and properly weld them back together.

I was worried about sharing that information in fear that some one would not weld them correctly so I made sure to explain that if they came apart the parts could go into the hydro and cause major damage.

I see a lot of people repairing them and advertising them for sale. I just hope they are doing the repair correctly.

Maybe you don't know your own strength! Just tapped them too hard!

Anyway, if the PO had taken care of this tractor, you wouldn't have it now!
