K341 tuning
The 1650 is back together (mostly) and has been fired-up after getting new rings, valve-lapping and gaskets. Kirk's point-saver ignition has also been installed. I set the timing as per Kirk's instruction sheet, and the motor starts well. My question is on carb adjustment. The Kohler engine manual gives initial settings for the low idle jet at 2 1/2 turns out, and the high idle at 3 1/2 turns. However, there's no diagram to indicate which is which. I assume the jet nearest the air entry at the 12:00 position is the low idle, and the jet at the 2:00 position closer to the engine block is the high idle. Please let me know if I'm wrong.
The engine idles well, but stalls when the throttle is opened quickly. Slow acceleration will get to the governed high speed. I'll also assume that a higher engine speed will be attainable under a load. Any tuning help will be appreciated.
