QA36A Snowthrower Belt Question
 

We have a Cub Cadet 1650 that we purchased late this summer and are now trying to hooking up a QA36A Snowthrower to it for the first time. After approximately 8 tries we were able to get the snowthrower hooked into the quick latch and onto the frame bolts on the front. We then figured out that we had to shorten the lift rod that came with it in order to raise the unit off the ground. This idea of course came after trying to follow the manual trying to adjust the hydro lift mechanism which in turn broke the cooling fan. Now we are trying to get the the V-Belt onto the PTO and gear box and cant get it to fit. Is there any trick to putting on the V-Belt for the QA36A snowthrower? Any advice and guidance is appreciated.

Yes I have a copy of the "Operators Manual Setting Up Instructions QA-36A and QA-42A Snow Throwers" but it doesn't provide a lot of information on how to put the belt on. The directions make it sound like the belt just slips on and you have to tension it to keep it on. When I try to put on the belt I can't get it on the bottom pulley. I am able to just get it into the grove on one side of the pulley but can't get it to go all the way on. On page 6 of the manual it says "Do not tighten set screws on drive sheave until final belt alignment is made." Do I need to loosen these 4 bolts? However I do not see that providing any vertical slack to help put the belt on. Also when I turn the tension screw handle on the front right of the mounting it doesn't seem to do anything.

Yes that is the belt we are trying to install.

Did you turn the adjustment handle to move the pulley up? Once you do that, the belt will go on easily...then you turn the handle the opposite direction to increase tension to specs.

Got it figured out. I had to loosen the bolts that attach the Gear Box to the mounting plate and slide them up as far as they could go. This raised the Gear Box and allowed us to get the belt on. Tightened the 4 mounting bolts in their new raised position, turned the tension lever a few turns and every thing runs as designed. Next trick is trying to get the chains on. The excitement is killing me.
