Don't laugh.. Too loud!

I know not many of you mind this but my 149 seems awfully loud. I was at a friends this afternoon and his John Deere 212 seemed about half as loud as mine. I looked under the hood and there sat a 12 horse Kohler just like my 149. Of course the engine was a little different. Is there any way to check to see if the baffles are bad or if the muffler is shot? I cannot find any leaks anywhere around the clamp or on the muffler.
I was thinking of taking it to some parades next year but I'm afraid it might be too loud for people without ear protection. Thanks, Mark

Just buy a new muffler and you'll be set for years.

Sorry, my mistake. I know my 149 has a 14 horse Kohler. Thanks, Mark

My 212 is very quiet especially since I took the motor out...and a few other parts.

People will love the sound of your 149 a real garden tractor

THe 210-216 Deers has a very efficient muffler system( Quiet)
The muffler is big and does a good job.
If you can get that muffler to fit on your cub, you will see good results.
I remember right around those years, most mowers makers became aware of "noise pollution" and tryed various ways to quiet there products besides mufflers, they added side panels/ vibration dampners and other things.
In my younger days it couldn't be too loud, be it music or motors.
Now my hearing is shot with constant ringing.
but to each his own, it is yours do as you please
HUH?

My 126 has a new muffler on it and it is much quieter than my others.

You could put a new stack on it with a flapper and give it that neat tractor appearance!

I have been looking at mufflers and I see two types. One just says new muffler and it looks like mine and one says OEM new. That one also looks the same. What's the difference? Thanks, Mark

IF ITS TOO LOUD YOUR TOO OLD!!!! Just kidding. I was in same predicament. I straight piped my smoker and that lasted one mowing. Go with OEM. You get what you pay for trust me
