Help! Broken Spindle

3 Attachment(s)
So I drove the 147 on the road over to the local composing facility to drop off some branches I had laying around. On the way back, I'm turning into my driveway, and the front wheel broke off and goes flying across the road!!

Are these spindles still available?

It looks like it was cracked previously and I just managed to finish it off.

Has anyone heard of this happening before?

Thanks!

Any narrow frame spindle from a 70 to a 147 will fit. I would check with one of our sponsors at the top of the page for a replacement spindle.

Spindle breaking is nothing new.Cubs that have wide front tires and attachments like a snow thrower or loader will have more problems.

I was looking at a 1450 the other day where the axle had broken in half at the pivot.. seemed it was dropped off a truck.

If you check out one of the pulling sites they talk about spindle reenforcement...I don't remember where I found it but it may have been on Brian Millers site.

Right now there are three or four sets of spindles on Ebay that can be found by searching "cub Cadet spindle" .. none are over $15.00 plus shipping. Sure beats $60 plus for a new one.

LDPosse,

If you have a problem finding one I have one for the right side you can have for 10 bucks + shipping.

PF Engineering has a good "how-to" on converting to a 1" greasable hub for the fronts on wide-frame spindles. I plan to give it a try this spring on my 1650, since I eventually plan on building a loader for it. I think the cub faq page also has a similar how-to.
