1914 Onan Engine Replacement
i have found a guy who is selling a couple oman engines. He has a P220G from and old wheelhorse. He also has on old B48G but he's not sure if it runs because it hasn't been started in a while. Which one would be the better option?

The B48G. It was used in Cub Model 982.

Mikek, you need to get the info off of the motor tag to see what machine the motor is out of. The JD 420's also used a B48G also.
Onan's are great motors but can have some problems and some parts are expensive. |
The Onan from the Wheelhorse is a good engine - but....
If the engine has been overheated and the valve seats get loose, they are almost impossible to put back in place and stay there. Most of the folks I know who have Wheelhorse tractors with the Onans consider them toast if the valve seats let go. I've got two Wheelhorse tractors with the Onan, both are 20 hp and they have a unique sound that is wonderful. They are smooth and powerful - but they also drink a goodly bit of gas too. Parts are available, but expensive. Good luck, Bill |
