ih 982 three point hitch
can anyone tell me if a ih 982 cat 0 three point hitch will work on a 1872?
Thanks, Earl |
Everything but the lower hitch that bolts to the rear end will work because the aluminum rear uses five bolts rather than three. If you've swapped in a cast iron rear in the 1872 already, it will work fine. The cat 0 on my 982 is off a 1882, and I was able to fill in the old holes and drill it to fit the three bolt pattern for the IH rear end, but I don't think you have enough area to make a IH one fit the aluminum rear.

982
I haven't swapped them. Will probably just use the aluminum rear end for now. The 982 need more work than I am willing to put into it but it has a 3pt and rear pto that I can put on the 1872. Thanks for your help

Shouldn't take more than a few days to swap the rear and everything if you have the 982 to take the parts off. If you want the pto and everything its easiest to put the whole rear in the 1872.

I would recommend putting the 982 rear end in the 1872. You'll gain over 40lbs of traction. Plus if the 982 is IH build, you can ship it to me. I'll put that frame to good use!

1872
what is involved in swapping the rear ends? Is it just a matter of splitting the tractors?
thanks, Earl |
8 bolts and couple of lines, gasket if your changing pumps and 4 more bolts
half a day of time |

If they are both aluminum rears its a days worth...I just swapped out the 3pt and rear pto from a 982(6) to my 1872.... Easy job...

Aluminum rears
:beatdeadhorse:My 2 cents is U don't want to do any serious pulling, on bolts in an aluminum rear, a simple plow work, could tear threads !:BlahBlah::beerchug::beerchug:
