Questionable PO mods

With all the talk of PO (previous owner) modifications, I thought it would be a great idea to start a fun post of all the questionable things that were done to your Cub Cadet when you purchased it. This could be anything that seems out of the ordinary to you or anyone else. This is also meant to be a picture heavy post, maybe we can make it a sticky??

I'll start with my 147 when I got it in April.

Steering wheel cap was missing. Replacement? Spray paint lid.

The PO had a split tire and instead of replacing it he taped it. He also taped over a spit mower deck guide wheel AND a hole near the guide bracket. (cuz he didn't want grass getting on him.)

Since the motor is out of a 149 (I suspect) the coil was mounted too high so the PO turned the fuel tank the wrong way and installed a longer fuel line. This caused a whole lot of headaches. Also in this picture; nuts welded on the hood in place of the rusted off hinge holes.

Not really a MOD per se, but check out the lazy wiring. I fixed this.

This picture shows three PO mods. The pin came out for the rod that connects to the PTO so a shower hook was installed. Also, a hole was drilled for a pin to set the mowing depth on the lift lever stop bracket, instead of tightening the nut down. Also, I don't know why the screen over the drive shaft has a cut out in it.

One last one- an unnecessary noisy idler pulley that I suspect did more damage to the belt than did good. Also in the pic, two guide wheels that were installed that seem to work alright, but aren't necessary if the runners were still attached.

If you can't fix it with Duct Tape it's beyond repair. Love the shower curtain hanger for a pin. :biggrin2:

at least they made a attempt at fixing it, both my 102 and the 125 are a mess. the hydro pump on the 125 was leaking out of the trunion shaft. so the po just gobbed a whole lot of black gasket material on it it seemed like a whole tube on both sides. the 102 has just plain to many hours on it and not near enough tlc.

102 clutch for short folks

This is one of the mods to the 102 I picked up. Welded on an extention for the clutch:biggrin2:
Also the PO stretched out the battery box for a bigger one:bash2:
Oh, and let us not forget the on-off switch in front of the battery box to.

Amazing what some people will do, some fixes can't even be considered as noteworthy. But heck they are quick easy band-aid jobs to keep'em running??

Nik,

I've had a battery box or 3 look like that before. It's actually pretty easy to put back the way it belongs.

It's amazing what PO's have done to the cubs through the years.

Did you know you have your battery in backwards?

My book on po mods is coming soon...

Who has their battery in backwards?

darkminion_17 09-11-2012 09:52 PM

You do...
The battery hold down goes on the front edge of the battery towards the gas tank.
