K181 recoil start in an Original drive belt question.

I might be trading for a nice K 181 , and my O needs a Kohler instead of the backwards snowblower engine it has.. This Kohler has a rope start, and when you look at the flywheel side of the motor it almost looks like one could pull the rope start off, slip a belt on, and bolt the rope start back on, as long as it was a fairly narrow belt.. Is the recoil cup the same on the Original as on a standard 181 recoil start engine? or did it have a vee belt pulley built in?

SUre would be nice to have three forward speeds again....:bash2: ( I realize I could swap the carrier over but as long as I have a KOHLER......)

This is how IH did the recoil start. It has to be this way since the drive shaft is driven of the flywheel side of the motor.

I think the Original had a different recoil start than that. In fact, I believe it was on the flywheel end in the 'usual' place, but with one mounting leg removable so that the belt could be changed. But I don't actually own one, so I can't say for sure.
