149 Repower
Has anyone installed anything other than a K321 into a 149? Looking for what will fit between the frame rails IF I decide to remove my K321. any thoughts? I don't believe a Magnum 18 will fit, anyone install an Vanguard 18hp?

Have you checked out (jims small engines/ jims tractor repair)
There is a lot of information on his site about what engines fit what tractor. Jacks small engines is another one. Small engine warehouse is another. |
Is there something wrong with your K321?

Motor runs pretty decent for the most part, however about 20 minutes into a run it goes through a phase where it acts like it is running out of fuel. It coughs, sputters and almost dies. It usually lasts for a minute or two and if you turn off the PTO and idle it, it usually runs fine for the rest of the run. I have looked at fuel delivery, fuel tank venting, gas tank screen etc. The only other item I am wondering is if the battery goes dead and then the regulator kicks in and starts to charge about 20 minutes into the run. I need to get a new battery because this one is about done and try it again to see if it makes any difference.
Usually if a coil goes bad, they stop working when the motor gets hot. Regarding repower, I am just in the "what fits" thinking mode. Not sure if I will do it, but it would be nice to have a motor that has a real starter and charging system. |
If you want a motor with a starter..Look at a newer K series Kohler out of a QL...Like a 1450. :beerchug:

You can make a Vanguard or a CH fit but it will take some cutting and welding. You may want to look around for a Mag 16 it's single.:bigthink:

honestly, if you ask me you cant get any better then a starter generator on these cubs. when they are working right they worl the motor right over like nothing, they are cheap to rebuild and they dont kick out like the stupid bendix type just my thoughts tho. |

That's kinda my thoughts, too... :beerchug: |
Maybe a K341 (16 hp) or K361 (18 hp)?? The 13-Fin K341 can be bored to 4 inches. You can put a truck piston in there if you want.
