1650 need help on purchase

I'm looking at buying this tomorrow. What do yo think? These tractors in Georgia are rare and not cheap.

International Harvester Cub Cadet Model 1650 for sale for $850. I have owned it since 1995. Back then I completely restored it, rebuilt engine, new wiring, etc. dissasembled entire tractor and painted with part # paint. It still looks good but for an old 1650 it's in great shape. It has a 52 in deck, and it will clear a field like a bush hog. It is a great hoss and I hate to part with it but I need the money. (kjb4h-3037547833@sale.craigslist.org)

Please let me know

Scott

You're asking me? I bought one with a engine that's anything but good. But I think it was still an alright good deal.
Anyway I'm thinking the 1650 never came with a 52" dech, so it could of been a add on from the PO. location and direction are a big factor in price. Do you have pictures? Also "completely restored" can take on many meanings, i.e. stripped down and painted with auto type paint or just rattle can painted over rusty metal, so that's something to take into consideration.
Also if everything works as the add said, options....
One other thing would be the add where the owner states it will clear a field like a brush hog, has it been abused? Go check it out and try it and see if it's everything stated.
Good luck. But take this from someone who found out the hard way. Don't go looking with blinders on, go with the thought that you don't need it, but you may want it. Check it out good, also before I forget, check the ISO mounts also. Try everything out, remember when you get it home, you will start to see things you didn't while you were looking at it, then it's yours.

New 1650

I'm taking a tractor mechanic with me. I hope this is the first of several Cubs I've been looking at. I'm looking at using this one to pull carts around my house. I can cut my grass with a push mower in 15 minutes, so the size of the mower isn't that important to me. I would like to try and plow with it one day.

I can't post pics but here is the Craigslist link ((kjb4h-3037547833@sale.craigslist.org), if that doesn't work go to Atlanta, in in search IH 1650, the one in McDonough, GA)

Does the tiller gear box come with it?

North-Woods 06-30-2012 11:37 PM

Yes, everything as you see it and now I'm trying to find the tiller. He just might have one! I know in the future I might have to work on this Cub but getting close to retirement my wife want me to have something to do.

I split this from Todd's thread to get you more eyes on it.

2 sets of IH wheel weights and tiller gear box are all pluses. It can't have 52" he must have meant 50 as that's the largest deck that will fit under it. Check the ISO mounts and rag joints. To me the looks like he just painted it and is calling it restored. Seeing the tiller gear box was painted over shows that it wasn't a 100% tear down restored. I know that cubs are rare in ATL but I think he's just a little high still. He states he needs the cash so work him over on the price and see if he can drop to $650 or $850 with the tiller if it has the belts and extenstions.:TwoCents:

I'd be willing to bet it's a 44" deck, because a 44" deck is about 52" or so wide overall. That's how a lot of people seem to want to measure deck size.

North-Woods 07-01-2012 04:14 PM

Well it's mine now. He came down $50.00 because it needed a battery. I took a friend of mine that works and restores tractors. He went over it pretty good and said it was worth what he was asking. It was as good as the pictures. Everything work but the battery. We jumped it off and tried out all the controls and lifts and cut a little with it. Next we had to remove the deck to put it on my 5ft wide trailer. At home we installed the deck
( How easy) and I cut a little grass. Tomorrow I'll be a chinamart for a new battery.
