18HP Mag Oil Question
I have three 18hp Magnum engines and the owners manual call for three pints and fourteen ounces when you change the oil/filter. But when I pour this much in, the oil is about 1/2 inch above the full mark on the dipstick ??
I was curious what everyone else does that has these engines when you change the oil/filter , use the amount the manual states or just enough oil to get to the FULL mark on the dipstick ?? Thanks , Darrell |
Its gotta fill the filter. run it for a minute, let it sit a bit, then check it. I bet it will be spot on

I let it run to fill the filter/lines , still way above full on the stick. I have two 1811's and an 1872 , all three of them show they are overfilled using the amount in the manual.

huh. Well I'd fill it to where it says it should be according to the dipstick.

I go the 1.5 qts as R Bedell has offered, I don't not worry so much as long as it's between the ''full'' and ''add'' marks. Your good to go. I also prefill the filter when I change it. I'm not sure it helps that much but it makes me feel better.

Thanks Roland !! I guess i missed that quote in my service manual.

I always dump a qt or so in it, then run it for about 30 sec to a min and recheck and fill to where it needs to be. Ive never, even doing my trucks at work relied on x amount of oil in the case. I put in just under what should be full, run it to fill the filters, and then top off.
Also if your engine is suppose have 1 and 2/3 qts of oil in it, it wont hurt it to have 1 1/3 to start it then top off. |
