better steering wheel cap, and some boot help
Thanks to Lew, I received a better cap for my steering wheel on my 147. This is what a PO had put on there:
A spray paint cap-- http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...27steering.jpg This is what it looks like now http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...i/104_2854.jpg I have to fix the boot as it needs help, and the cap is currently just resting in place, and not fixed very securely. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...i/104_2853.jpg Any thoughts on some sort of two part epoxy patch or something that is paintable to match? Has anyone had any luck with a product that I'm unaware of? Thanks |
Being your steering wheel is cracked, your cap will be loose. I just wrapped double sided tape on the cap and stuck it in.
It's still in, so it works. Big improvement over the paint cap:beerchug: |
Small world, I got a wheel center for my 147 from Lew as well.
:beerchug: FYI, the boot on my wheel is in perfect shape and the cap still just kind of clunks in loosely. :bigthink: |
i wonder if it could be melted a little on both sides of the crack than pressed together and held that way with a c-clamp or electrical tape wrapped around it. with the cap out of it of course. that would be my first try. than filed and sanded smooth. no painting required.

cap
What worked for me was some some clear silicone caulking. It stays flexible and if you ever need to remove the cap its very easy.I just set the cap in place and put a small bead at the point where the cap meets the wheel. It has been there for about 3 yrs now with no problems, although I did have to remove it once and it was very easy!!!!!!!
