Kessler's 1969 Cub 73 Project

Been lurking here for a while, had a project with no motor and got rid of it. Waiting it out for an earlier Cub with round fenders. Picked this baby up Sunday and couldn't be happier about it. I broke the steering knuckle tonight, but looks like someone here is already helping with that.:beerchug:

I used to sell automotive paint for a living, and I've painted all types of things and full cars. I can't wait to get into this project. I need to do some reserach on wheels and tires as I want 12" wide wheels and ag tires on the rear and skinny ribbed tires for the front. I plan on going base clear on all the tin work and probably the frame. I'll use the tractor for pulling a spreader, a wagon, and I'd like to get a plow for it... I see a garden in my future.

Sweet 72. That is a much better start than most I have had.
You might want to see miller for tire options. I dont know if you have checked them yet, if not here ya go. http://www.millertire.com/categories/lawn-garden-tires/
Some people say Carlisle Super-Lug's are the best. I have never tried them so I dont know. :beerchug:

I hate to post anything green here, but I love these rear tires and wheels. I am tempted to build a Cub Version of this tractor...

Great looking 73, you have there. It's a 73, you can tell it's a 73 by the white dash and the notches in the front of the frame. :beerchug:

Congratulations on a super find on that 73 in that shape! The 73 is one of the more rare tractors by production numbers and the last of the economy line of tractors. The hood on it now is not original to it, but those hoods are difficult to find in good shape. Have you considered running duals on the back? I like the older 60's models with dual 6's more than with other tires on the back. Looks like you have a tractor that is in better shape than what most of us start with and we can't wait to see pics of your progress.

I thought about duals, but I love those wide ag tires, the tractor is in nice shape, I've looked at many, and looked at the ads of thousands before finally pulling the trigger on this one. I've got to spread fertilizer with it once the new steering spindle comes in that I broke, and then I think I'll start working on it.

I guess I need to start looking for a 73 hood... I'd still like someone to point out the frame differences between the 72 and 73 for me.

Thanks guys!
