Deck or PTO problem

A few weeks ago, I got a new to me 147. It runs fine, but the mower deck blades slow down if I mow too fast or with the deck in it's lowered position. The deck belt seems tight, but that is hard to quantify. How do I determine if the problem is one of the belts, or the pto clutch slipping? What else could it be?

I'm mowing at full throttle, but I must mow quite slowly to do a good job. I can see the uncovered pulley on the right side of the deck slow down if I give it too much long grass or forward speed.

Thanks
Jason

if the motor doesnt bog down when cutting the tall grass it sounds as if you have PTO slippage issue one way to tell is to try to turn it by hand with it engaged and the motor off if it turns at all I would say its rebuild/replace time for the clutch

If the belt is/was slipping, you'd be able to smell it. Not so with the PTO clutch.

No odor.

With the engine off and the pto engaged, what should I turn by hand? The blades or the pto itself?

How hard of a job is it to rebuild the pto clutch? I just read the service manual, doesn't look too hard. Where do I get new parts?

Thanks

turn the pto by hand when engaged and engine off. not too hard to rebuild. parts can be gotten at one of our sponsors.
