149 drive shaft ball

My 149 seems to be missing the ball spacer that is in the hydro coupling drive plate. It is mentioned in the service manual but does not show a picture and the Cub Cadet parts website does not show it. Anyone know where I can find this? It appears to keep the drive shaft from having too much fore and aft movement and is located in the rear of the shaft at the pump coupler. Thanks.

They are NLA from cub cadet now. Contact our sponsors at the top of the page by phone or email and give them your info and needs. Should be able to take care of you.

If it's the same as what's in a QL, it's just a 5/8" ball bearing ball...nothing special about it. A good hardware store would have one, and McMaster-Carr would for sure.

Didn't know Wide Frames had the ball... Didn't think they started using them until the Quiet Line series.

Anyway, I have them $3.00 plus shipping.

Thanks for the help ,boys. The manual also states that 2 flexible discs were used on my model, but only 1 is present. The drive shaft may need to be replaced as well- its a little boogered up on the pump end (probably from running without the spacer). Thanks for the help!

OK, so finally got around to this and have found that a 5/8 ball will not fit- the yoke is too small. So, I guess this means it should have 2 rag joints instead of 1 to keep the front pin in the flywheel preloaded? With just 1 it slings the pin out unless a hose clamp is installed, but it looks like kaka.

If the pin is coming out, something is worn out. It should stay in there by itself.

Is it suppose to be a press fit on the flywheel coupling end? Right now it slides in the slot from the rear and the bolts that hold the coupling to the flywheel keep it in the slot. The pin is new, and the slot does not seem to be worn.

It should be a tight fit in the shaft. Sounds like the hole in the shaft is worn. "Is a no good when a da hole is a too big an da pin is a too small" :biggrin2:
