few issues with 1450 hydro
 

1. I have a 1450 that doesn't seem to want to stay in a neutral position, either by moving the hydro lever by hand to Neutral or using the brake pedal. It wants to creep into a rather slow forward or reverse. Would you anticipate this to be a linkage issue or an issue with the hydro valve needing to be rebuilt?

2. The 1450 also doesn't seem to want to keep a constant velocity while driving it around. Without moving the throttle or hydro lever it wants to speed up mostly but sometime slow down while mowing or tilling.

3. The steering wheel has a fair amount of play (probalby a good 1.5" or more of play each direction) before the linkage starts to tighten up enough to turn the front wheels. Is this normal or is the linkage worn out.

If you can find a neutral position with the hydro lever, but it won't stay there, it's a linkage problem. Also, the hydro lever may be too loose, allowing it to vibrate and change positions. There is a technical section on the site that has the manual for a 1450, it will explain how to adjust the linkage properly.

In my experience, it's pretty normal for you to experience minor ground speed changes when you travel up/down hills or use your lift/auxiliary cylinder. If this is the case, I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

There are quite a few posts on here about people rebuilding steering columns that you could take a look at - I've never done it, but the threads seem to explain the steering system pretty well.

look under search for trunion repair. if its never been done before on the tractor, it could probably really use it. as for the steering column. same thing here, probably could use a rebuild. they usually do. check your spindle up front too. alot of people, myself included would put bolts instead of pins through the spindles and spindle cap that connects to the steering box. all this does is egg out the spindles. then they need to be drilled larger and pinned. if your linkage arm moves with the steering wheel a little before actually turning the wheel itself, than this would be the problem.

Thanks Gentlemen, I appreciate the help.
Used the service manual to reset the Neutral position and that worked very well. Will need to replace the hydro filter and maybe tighten up the hydro handle a bit. While tilling I am having issues with the tractor wanting to creep into a faster speed. Also, the Reverse doesn't have much power and goes pretty slow. Took a look at the trunion and it looks too be worn a bit. Will need to do some work on that also. The hydro brackets are pretty sloppy. Guess I have a lot of work ahead of me.
