Questions about IH Cub Cadet 682
 

Hello,

I am new to this forum and am interested in purchasing my first Cub Cadet Tractor.

I found a Cub Cadet 682 that I like and I have a couple of questions that I would like to ask about the Cub Cadet 682.

First, how many hours are these tractors usually good for?

Secondly, is the 17 hp twin cylinder Kohler motor a good quality, long lasting motor?

Third, is it possible to put a tiller attachment on these tractors and if so, what size of tillers can you put on these? Being able to have a tiller on it is important to me as I would like to start a small tilling business in the future.

Lastly, is there anything else that I should know about these tractors that would help me in making a decision?

A 682 is a fine tractor. 17 hp Kohler is a great engine when properly cared for. Watch out for the series 1 engines. You can add a tiller but with a manual lift you will need a spring assist. I till alot and me personally would only want hydraulic lift such as a 782.:American Flag 1:

I was doing more research and found out that the 682 does not have a rear pto. I was really wanting to have a rear pto so that if I put a tiller on the tractor it would be shaft driven instead of belt driven. Could someone please tell if there were any red Cub Cadet models made that had a rear pto?

The 982 was a red cub that could have a rear pto. It is classified as a super garden tractor. Tillers for the mentioned tractor are hard to find and very pricey when they are found. Other super garden tractors had rear pto's such as a 1572, 1772, 1872, 2072, etc., but these were yellow and white. One could always paint 'em red though.........

what's wrong with using a belt driven PTO for the tiller?

Even the 982 PTO's are ultimately belt driven:
