K241 trouble
 

Today i was out working with my 108 and the engine has sounded like it had a slight knock in it so i didnt run the throttle any higher than in the mid range. Long story short, the knocking slowly turned into surging and hunting with the throttle. Later in the afternoon i could not run it any faster than idle otherwise the engine would backfire through both the carb and exhaust in rapid succesion and shut down. I havnt dug into this engine yet but I was wondering just what could be the cause(s) for the way its running now.

Sounds like spark nock. Check your timing, points setting, and change your condensor and see how that dose.

i would aggree with vince check the points for starters

Your exhaust valve could be the problem also. After you try the points start running heavy dose of MMO in the gas and oil. Maybe put some in the spark plug hole and crank out the excess.
But do 1 thing at a time or you'll never figure out what it was.
