Looking to buy a light duty mower.
 

Currently I am using my Father in law's 128 to mow my grass. I am looking to upgrade, but do not want to buy new. It will be used for mowing and light work. I would like a 42 in deck but could settle for a 38 however a hydro transmission is a must. What models should I be looking for that were built well and would serve my purpose. Thank You

How much yard do you have to mow. What kind of light work are you talking about. For that much money, you can get an awesome cub with many attachments ready to work and last a lifetime.

Seeing that you are wanting a hydro, I would suggest a Cub 129, 149 (workhorse for the cub line), 169 (rare hard to find), or the Quiet line series, a 1450, or 1650. Then there is the 82 series such as a 682, 782, 1811 and 1812. The 82 series uses a twin cylinder engine and is very smooth running compared to the single cylinder engines in the previous mentioned models. But they are all outstanding and should do whatever you need.

Do you have a large or small yard? I would say something like a nice 782 / 1811 would be a good tractor for mowing, and should be within your price range. Like dx3 said too, the 149 and other wide frames are a good choice as well. How do you like the 128? I assume you are looking for a little more power?

First year of the hydro cubs started with the 123 model. ( even though it's a good idea to shy away from first year production, the 123 is NOT one of those )

The 125 (12 hp ) or 105 ( 10hp ) would be another narrow frame model to look for.

I have just under an acre and use my 125 or 122 ( manual trans ) to mow, clear snow, rototill or plow.

If you like the 128, get a 129 or 149 and save a ton of money.

:Welcome2: The 129's are plentiful in this area, hydrostatic, cheap and plenty of mower for whatever you want to do (should easily handle 1.5-2 acres). I thought the wide frame plows were hard to come by in this area, as I had to look 3 months just to find one....then in less than 3 months I have bought 5 of them. The 129 will be just like the 128, but hydrostat. The 123 and 125 model are just as nice, but changing hydro filters is a little tougher.
