Yep...

That's where I got my bearing and brushes. They fit great and the brushes were made in the USA to boot.

Field coils... now THERE you're going to have a problem. I suspect if you need those, you're going to be forced to buy NOS or salvage them from a used unit.

I just finished repairing my S/G on my O (documented in another thread)

I took my s/g to the local shop and they ordered brand new field coils for it.

When I had a little wiring problem I took my S/G to the shop and they rewound the portion that was toasted.:bash2:\

New aftermarket field coils (and armatures and practically anything else you want) can be had, but you'll likely have to go through a starter repair place to get them.

I see you are in Kansas. C&C starter in Raytown Mo took care of my starter problems a rear bushing , insulator , , brushes ,cut the comintator for $59 we talked about a F coil I think he said $22. it got hot . I would check the truck starter/generator shops near you

Gotta be Delco

I guess since they made these things for years it makes sense they'd still have supplies... good tips!

I would imagine that starter/gen/motor shops are going the way of TV repair places. Glad to see that there still are some

Is that Ebay kit all that is usually needed? My S/G works, but seems to crank a little too slow.

Matt G. 02-11-2012 09:53 PM

If it starts and charges, that's probably all you would need. The armature and field coils either work or don't, in my experience. If the brushes are shot and commutator scored and dirty, it may not crank over very well.
