S/G Question
Guys,
I noticed, that the new S/G on 100 #2 has a smaller pulley, than the one on Dually. When I start #2, the S/G makes a whirring sound for a few seconds, before it starts to turn the engine over. Could the smaller pulley be the cause? Shouldn't the 10 hp Kohlers have the larger pulley? |
I would replace the belt with a great (not just good) quality belt first.
It sounds like the belt is slipping. There is no place in my life for cheap belts, a great one only costs about $2 more. :bigthink: |
It has the correct belt.
|
Allen, what does it sound like with the belt off and the key in the start position?

How old is the belt!!?? :bigthink: |
Maybe the pulley is loose on the S/G,watch to see what is slipping when it is not turning the engine over.

Hey ACecil,
Do you have any adjustment left. I agree with CADplans, it sounds like its slipping. If you can adjust it a little tighter and see if that helps. just my :TwoCents: |
Thanks everyone! I'll check the adjustment.
CAD, the belt is brand new. Came right out of the package, before it was put on the tractor. |
I have a s/g that the pully split in half. That might be cause of the wirr'ing sound due to lost tension ? Then friction sets in and it grabs and starts the motor.:bigthink:

Definately check your belt tension. If it's cold weather, I found my belt needed to be a hair tighter than normal, I'm using a Stens True Blue belt and it seemed to lose a bit of friction with the colder weather. I snugged it up a bit more and voila I have no slippage! :beerchug:
