S/G Question

Guys,

I noticed, that the new S/G on 100 #2 has a smaller pulley, than the one on Dually. When I start #2, the S/G makes a whirring sound for a few seconds, before it starts to turn the engine over. Could the smaller pulley be the cause? Shouldn't the 10 hp Kohlers have the larger pulley?

I would replace the belt with a great (not just good) quality belt first.

It sounds like the belt is slipping.

There is no place in my life for cheap belts, a great one only costs about $2 more. :bigthink:

It has the correct belt.

Allen, what does it sound like with the belt off and the key in the start position?

The belt can be correct and slip,

How old is the belt!!?? :bigthink:

Maybe the pulley is loose on the S/G,watch to see what is slipping when it is not turning the engine over.

Hey ACecil,
Do you have any adjustment left. I agree with CADplans, it sounds like its slipping. If you can adjust it a little tighter and see if that helps. just my :TwoCents:

Thanks everyone! I'll check the adjustment.

CAD, the belt is brand new. Came right out of the package, before it was put on the tractor.

I have a s/g that the pully split in half. That might be cause of the wirr'ing sound due to lost tension ? Then friction sets in and it grabs and starts the motor.:bigthink:

Definately check your belt tension. If it's cold weather, I found my belt needed to be a hair tighter than normal, I'm using a Stens True Blue belt and it seemed to lose a bit of friction with the colder weather. I snugged it up a bit more and voila I have no slippage! :beerchug:
