Needs help
I have a 1961 model 71 cub that just needs a little more go. Is there any certain things I can do to make it go quicker?
|
Go as in trans kind of go? or engine power?

71's were only made from 1965 to 1967. A 1961 Cub would be what we call an "O" or Original.
Do you have some pics of your Cub? This link will give you the timeline of the cub models. http://www.xtrememotorworks.com/Cub_cadet_History.htm |
Sorry I meant 1965. I typed it wrong. I was talking engine power but if there is an easy way to modify the trans I would love to know. I will post some picture here tommorow

You can change the gears in the rearend. I've never done it but that's one way to make it quicker.

If you want more speed in the tranny, you can get an over drive gear from Mid West Supper cub or one from Vogle. My friends run Vogle in theirs they say its easier to install. Get a 10% over drive and it will go faster.
If you want more HP, then you can drop in a 12 HP in it. You can put a 14 in it but you'll have to change the flywheel with a 12. I'm putting, if I ever find the time, a 14 in my 126. Using a 12 flywheel. Little Vince's 582 was real slow in second gear, I pulled the rear out of it and stuck one in from a 124. Much better to plow with, just a tad faster make all the difference. If you do the over drive on yours your looking at half a day at the most to do it. Pull the rear, pull the pinion, you'll get a new one with the kit, and then pull the bull gear. reinstall everything and you ready to go. Tilt the rear up and you'll have very little oil loss. Did one for a guy in the shop a few months back. I did it in like 1.5 hrs in a 100. |
