Changing motors on 1220

Hello everyone, I have a question about changing a motor on a 1220, if it comes down to it. The b/s 12hp model # is 281707-type 0134-01 and code is 88021011. I took this tractor intending on putting a b/s 12hp model #282707- type 0026-01 code 9603152B on it because the po said the motor was bad and after checking it out, it had spark and compression so I started working on the original motor which I had running and now doesn't run. My question is the difference between the 2 motors is 1. one has a fuel pulse pump and the other one doesn't. I know I can put that on the newer motor and change the breather to run a vacuum line to the pump. 2. the original has a external voltage regulator that the stator plugs into and the output goes to the reverse switch and the new motor doesn't, the wiring harness plugs into the stator and I haven't been able to check where those wires go but don't see any regulator. 3. the cub has seperate choke and throttle while the husky has all in one. This newer motor only has one mowing season on it and is on a Husky 12/42, I got a great deal on that motor for $75 brand new so I put it on that tractor and sold the running old motor for $75. Now I have a JD L130 for mowing and the husky just sits around with that new motor on it, so thats why I started looking for a project to put that motor to use. Im still working on the original but am looking at my options-the husky has to go so I was looking for some input on changing those two motors.:bigthink:

I would just put all the 1220-specific stuff on the new engine. Strip the new motor down to a long block, and put on the carb and everything from the old motor...most Briggs stuff is interchangeable...they made a few basic engines and like 2500 different carbs and throttle/choke linkage configurations.
