Climbing a Hill
 

What do you think the max angle is for a 107 to climb straight up and down with a 10 cubic feet trailer full of firewood.

I ask because I want to move some of my firewood (a little more then a cord) next to my garage (concrete block) before the winter. I have the wood out in the yard seasoning and my yard slopes down in the back. The garage is built up to keep it level as it extends into the backyard. I would says its maybe 5ft high, and the slope is maybe 40 degrees. I know for fact I can not mow it (i use a push mower for it). But it would make moving the fire wood WAY easier. I would even consider making a ramp to lessen the angle.

A 40-degree slope is no place for a tractor. Besides the fact that you'll probably starve the rod bearing of oil, that's a dangerously steep slope.

However, I doubt your slope is actually 40 degrees. If you can measure the length of the slope from the garage to the flat area of the yard and get a reliable estimate of the height of the floor of the garage above the yard that it slopes into, you can calculate the actual slope, at which point you can make a more informed decision about whether or not to drive up and down it. I believe the Kohler manual says that you should avoid slopes steeper than 15 degrees. Or maybe it was 30. Either way...you should measure yours first.

Less work and expense would be to find or create an anchor point just above where you want to stop. Connect your trailer to a cable/rope go around the anchor and connect that to the tractor. Then "wench" it up by moving the tractor forward.

I was told one time as a general rule for safety's sake if you cannot back up it don't try forward.

slope driving
 

Well now slope driving is my thing here.I live on a hill side.
I have yet to find that my cadets to have any trouble driving any ground that can easily be walked can be driven.
I have a snapper zero turn (it's for sale) that wont go up along the west end of my house when it is wet but the 147 and 104 will haul a loaded garden cart up the slope. in 20 ft raises 6 foot I don't know what the angle is. :biggrin2.gif:

That's roughly 17 degrees. Not great, but probably OK if you keep an eye on the oil level.

So I think I had a major brain fart.

I have been worried about this for so long that I have all these crazy solutions and now even got all you guys thinking of solutions. But sometimes its right in front of you. I have a side door on the side of my garage right next to where I want to put the fire wood, and.......... its pretty easy to drive around to the front of my yard then INTO the garage and then it will be maybe 5 steps from the side door to the storage area. :bash::bash2:
