Power Steering
I'm thinking of adding PS to my 1811. I have talked to Rich at Patton's about it and he says he has the parts to do the job. My question is there any reference from someone else that I could look at to help me decide if I can do it or not? I looked at the parts and the one issue that I am concerned about is that a lot of the units came with adjustable steering wheels which I cannot use. If I got a unit that had that feature is there an easy way to just use the lower unit without the upper part and use the shaft out of another standard tractor? Also, will I need the dual hydro valve or will my single valve work? Anyone having done this conversion offering advice would surely be appreciated.:bigthink:

I have not done a conversion, but do know both systems fairly well. Single spool hydraulics will work just fine with power steering. All the "82" series style tractors with power steering had solid non tilt steering. Only the "cyclops" style tractors had the tilt steering feature.
Rich knows his parts. He will definitely set you up with the correct parts for your conversion. He most likely will sell you a complete "kit" so to say, with all the hydro lines ,brackets, ext. I have seen a couple custom builds using the tilt steering columns in non tilt applications. Usually to make more room in the dash tower, for whatever the reason called for. It can be done but is far more than a direct bolt in. |
PS
Thanks for the advice. I am trying to get a project for the winter and figured that might be the ticket. I hate to start a job only to find out that there is ONE small part that everyone knows about but me and it is the hardest part to find in the universe. I expect to have to fabricate something but some parts are a must have item. Rich does know his stuff and I am waiting for him to let me know how much and if he can get all of the parts to me.
